Waltrop is worth a trip!

There are a lot of things to see and do in Waltrop.

Waltrop is a city between the Ruhrgebiet (Ruhr area) and the Münsterland. This combination makes it a special place to visit and enjoy, as you can find industrial culture as well as local recreation.

The heart of the city beats in the historic city-centre with its old parish church (10th century) and the oldest half-timbered house of the region, which can be traced back to the 16th century.

The Schleusenpark-Waltrop is famous for its boat lifts, especially for the old canal lift. After its construction in the year 1899, it was the first one of its kind in Germany. It is still the biggest building at the Dortmund-Ems-Kanal.

Another demonstration of the industrial past of Waltrop is the Alte Zeche Waltrop. It used to be a coal mine once, but today it is a flourishing industrial estate with historic charm. You can also climb the old tower (Spurwerkturm), where you have a great view of the region.

Furthermore you can visit several other historic buildings and sights in and around Waltrop, as well as the museum of local history, which can be found in Riphausstraße next to the open-air swimming pool.
